Vote on the Issues

Residence privatization remains a strong concern around the 1,800 students currently living on Rez.
•    At the SFU Board of Governors level, Kevin Harding and I worked extremely hard to make sure that any discussion of residence privatization was done in the context of 2 strongly overriding principles. The first was that privatization resulted in an offering of rooms that are affordable to students and that the second was that quality would not be sacrificed. One other victory we had was ensuring that SFU maintained final say over rent increases. I have been told that this requirement may no longer be there and will fight like hell to bring it back

Student aligned policies help in improving the student experience at SFU.
•    In October of 2010 I began a petition for an internal tuition policy for SFU. The petition resulted in Board Policy B10.15 Consultation with Students on Tuition and Fees. I will fight to ensure policies are aligned with student interests, whether they relate to parking fees, grade reconsiderations, special fees or other such policies

As chair of the Student Space Working Group of the SFSS, I’ve received hundreds of responses from student surveys.
•    At the SFU Board level I will bring up the issue of lacking student space for individual/group study purposes. The last time this was done with issues such as the AQ bathroom renovations, the administration listened

Graduate issues are frequently overlooked at the SFU Board level without proper representation.
•    I will do my best to ensure that a dedicated graduate seat is created on the SFU Board. Most graduate students cannot compete with undergraduates in the SFU Board elections, based on their extensive workloads
